There is no precise record of the construction of this 17th century palace, situated in an attractive area of Lisbon with beautiful views over the city and the river. The earliest records go back to 1672, where it comprised a carriage entrance, a barn and five houses with stores underneath and a backyard. It survived the 1755 earthquake and changed owners several times over the years before it came into the hands of the present owners.
One of Europe’s most charismatic and exotic capitals, Lisbon is a bustling yet nostalgic city, a meld of modern life and old-world charm, tightly clustered among seven hills beside the broad Tagus estuary. As a city that launched many ancient voyages of discovery, it still has a sense of being at Europe’s edge, a
cultural melting pot.
